Steps of the Scientific Method
Topic: Observe, Ask Questions, Guess, Test & Analyse Like a Scientist!
Step 1: Observe & Ask Your pen stops writing. You ask: “Why did it stop?”
Step 2 & 3: Guess & Test #1 You guess: “The ink finished.” You open the pen to check, but the refill is half full! Your first guess was wrong.
Step 4: New Guess & Test #2 You make a second guess: “Maybe the ink dried up at the tip.” You rub the tip on paper or dip it in warm water—and it writes again! Problem solved scientifically!
Kitchen Scientist When someone cooking at home wonders if potatoes are boiled, they don’t just guess—they test it by pressing a potato or poking it with a fork, and they collaborate by tasting a spoon of soup to check if it needs more salt!
Anyone Can Be a Scientist A bicycle repair person pumps air into a flat tube and dips it in water to observe where air bubbles escape. An electrician tests switches and wires to see why a fan isn’t spinning. Anyone who follows the scientific method is working like a scientist!
1. What is the correct order of steps in the Scientific Method?
2. Suppose your experiment shows that your first guess was WRONG. What should you do next?
3. Do Scientists always work alone, or do they work together in teams?
